This experimental short film has been made keeping in mind that it will be a part of a full-length feature film. A father gets a phone call from a doctor who has given him a news which envelops him in a deep sense of gloom as he has been told about the terminal illness of his daughter. He remembers the beautiful times that he has shared with his daughter while she grew up to be a young little woman. The entire film deals with how he takes in the news.
David who is currently working as a workshop supervisor in Srishti School Of Art, shares his memories and his journey about how he entered Srishti and what was he before that. A passionate clock maker who used to work with HMT Watch Unit – one of the top- most watch companies in India from 1960s till 80s and was enjoying it to the fullest. But how time doesn’t remain same for everyone, and the downfall of HMT made him go through an unpleasant phase in his life. It is David’s fortitude that made him face that situation, not lose hope, which is still keeping him hopeful that one day he will get back to that business and his passion again.
'Chai Time' captures the ambience around the tea stalls at different timings. There are mostly the workers who work in factories and transportation, seen in these stalls.

The film is about a family trying to cope with trauma of loss of mother. The son is studying away from family and film shows the fortitude of a father, who does not want to let his daughter feel helpless and a daughter bravely trying to fill the void left by mother’s departure.
The film is also about the realization that death is final and life has to go on. Loss can never be filled. Yes, life has to move on but the void will always remain. How can that void be filled anyway? Can that void ever be filled?
